A part of the award judged each local NHS Web site and how easily they allowed local people to communicate and interact with their local NHS services.
The newly launched NHS HMR Web site allows the Communications Team to add latest news, announce events within the region, take opinion polls and even publish podcasts. The site has grown steadily since its launch in November 2008 with over 1,000 pages (including PDF files and other documents) now available.
Laura Baker (Communications Officer) commented on the success of the site and its contribution towards the award,
"The site has allowed NHS HMR to communicate with the local population on a level we've never been able to previously. The speed in which we can update the site with new content and local service details means it changes almost daily.
This impressed the award judges and was definitely something that pushed the HMR site ahead of some other very good NHS sites.
Our use of web technologies such as Podcasts showed how forward thinking our department is, something that wouldn't have been possible with our old site."
It's great to see that the judging panel identified the development of the new Web site and corporate branding, along with a series of podcasts as high profile projects worthy of national recognition. You can read more about the new Web site by visiting the NHS HMR portfolio page.
